Zaki Ameer has been on a financial roller-coaster ride that fast-tracked him from penniless student right into his own business. Now he’s applying his real-life challenges to help families live a more secure and fulfilling life, just as he did, through property.
Zaki traces the formation of his company, Dream Design Property, back to a simple ‘I said, he said’ conversation he had in his early twenties, when he was in debt to the tune of eighty-thousand dollars.
“I said ‘what do I do?’
“He said ‘get a loan.’
“I said ‘I don’t have any money.’
“He said ‘you need to get a deposit.’
“I said ‘I don’t even have enough money for that.’
“He said ‘do you want to stay in debt?’
“I said ‘no.’”
That conversation with the man who would become his accountant made Zaki realise debt itself wasn’t really a problem, as long as you have a plan to get out of it.
“I had no issue with being in debt,” recalls Zaki. “A lot of people fear debt, but taking a mortgage for me was just another debt, and I already had a lot of debt in personal loans to cover my university fees.”
